Episode 14: Listening To Your Body with Megan Jones
Listening to my body for self-love
My relationship with my body has always been a long chapter in my self-love journey. I was excited to sit down and talk to this month’s guest about how we can listen to our bodies more. I know it’s sometimes a taboo topic, our bodies, how we want to talk about them with ourselves. For the longest time I felt very disconnected from my body. Especially through my chronic illness journey.

My Relationship with Massage Therapy
Intertwining the mind, body, and spirit is a delicate dance. For me, massage therapy started as a birthday indulgence but slowly transitioned into a key component of my healing journey. It has allowed me to listen to my body more closely and to understand its whispers before they turn into screams. I didn’t realize how much I put my body through managing my diabetes because it’s always on autopilot.
Getting massages more frequently opened this alert for me. Once a year as a treat-yourself-gift didn’t always tell me what my body wanted me to hear. I would just think, well yeah, a year of no massage is going to feel like that. But when you inject your body to survive, your muscles are like, hey…maybe don’t inject your right leg for a bit? Thanks massage therapy, for letting my right thigh finally have a voice. We love advocacy!

A Healing Conversation with Megan Jones
In this episode, I talked to Megan Jones, a licensed massage therapist, entrepreneur, and an incredible inspiration. We dive deep into the transformative impact that massage therapy has had on both our lives.
Megan is from Ohio and moved to Austin, where she set up her practice, White Lotus Touch. Megan’s approach to massage therapy leads with gentle guidance, allowing the body to articulate its pain and needs. We chat about how the body stores trauma and why it’s crucial to listen and respond to its signals.
Megan reminds us that self-love is more than just self-care. It’s also about setting boundaries, respecting your limits, and understanding the signals your body sends you. Message therapy is not an act of indulgence but a fundamental aspect of emotional intelligence and well-being and a way to listen to your body.
Mind, Body, and Spirit
One of the things I loved most about our chat was the integration of your mental and spiritual well-being with your physical self. Megan gives us insight into how massage can help us process grief, reconnect with our emotions, and deepen our understanding of ourselves.
She also talks about her newfound passion for writing and how it feeds into her journey of self-discovery. Coming back to her first love, she found writing a challenging yet rewarding way to process and express herself. This helped her process her life journey and gave her a window for reflection and the nature of self-healing.
Megan teaches us that massage is not just a luxury—it’s a therapeutic tool with great potential to help manage and alleviate chronic pain, stress, and trauma. Visualizing massage therapy as a dialogue between you and your body can transform how you approach self-care. It was mid-conversation that I realized a massage therapist is literally like a talk therapist but for your body.

Life Advice From Megan
Megan left us with some words of wisdom that still echo through me today: “Don’t rush your becoming.” Your self-love journey is uniquely yours, and every misstep or trial is part of your unfolding. Listen to your body, trust its process, and cherish the strong, capable being that you are.
She also helped me realize how movement can be a way to heal your relationship with your body. Reminding us that movement (aside from breath) is how we first define ourselves and our view of the world. It had been a long time since I connected that.
Redefining that now and prioritizing how I feel in my body has led me to a new relationship with it. One that I didn’t think I could have, after years of being in survival mode. I end this episode with a lovely letter about boundaries.
