Stop Waiting for the door to open

Have you ever had a moment where you’re frustrated because nothing seems to be happening for you and you’re just waiting for The Universe to show up and fix something? Are you in that moment right now? Fine, I’ll stop reading your mind.

There’s a joke I heard a long time ago that I’m going to butcher and retell to you now. There was this guy that would pray to God every day to win the lottery. Every day he would ask God, please help me win the lottery. I don’t want to be poor anymore. Winning the lottery would solve all my problems. Every day he would ask God for a chance to win the lottery. To make his problems go away. One day, God finally answered his prayer. He told the man, my son, go buy a ticket!

I don’t get it. Well, The Universe can bless you my dear, but you gotta do the work. You gotta buy the ticket. You can’t just keep praying for something to happen. Meet The Universe halfway. You have to do some of the work, it’s all part of the balance.

Open the door.

People are always saying that if the door is closed it’s not meant to be. Or if one door closes another one opens. While I believe there is some truth to this, I also feel that there are a lot of doors in life that have probably gone unopened. I’m sure you’ve been praying for a new job or a new opportunity, a new relationship even, and God puts a door right in front of you, but you don’t even open it.

Sometimes, we have to do a little bit of work and open the door ourselves to see what may be behind it. That’s the beauty of free will. That’s why it exists. God has a plan for your life, but you gotta walk through the opportunities that The Universe puts into your path. You can’t just wait for it to open. You have to be the one that opens it.

Do the work.

Next time you pray for something, listen. Look at the door that’s right in front of you. Open it. See if it’s what you were looking for. Odds are, it’s probably not going to be in the form or way you imagined. But I guarantee that it will probably be better than what you wanted. There might be a room behind that door you opened, a room with more doors, more possibilities. Different paths that will lead you to where you’re meant to be.

Remember love, The Universe is not out to get you. It’s here to balance you. To help you achieve what you’re looking for. To guide you through the door, or on to the next one. But for heaven’s sake, open it next time. Buy the ticket! Do the work love, meet The Universe halfway. Remember, self-love is action.
